Advertisement plays a lot on people's desires and fears. Desire and fear are two extreme and common human emotions. I don't like the idea of being tricked by advertisement. Falling for an advertisement makes me feel likes there is someone in a back room somewhere laughing at me. Yet advertisement is vital to human progress and survival.

People like facts. Facts prove or seem to prove to people that they aren't being scammed. So, if I present something to you that is valid, you will more likely be peruaded by the topic I am presenting.

Perhaps, I am struck by a bolt of ethos but I do not like the idea of using another's fears against them. This is hypocritical because I'm sure I do it all the time. The same thing with playing on people's fears.

Rhetorical appeals are everywhere and not just in advertisement. Ethos, pathos, and logos are used everyday from small children to the elderly. A child uses pathos on their parents everyday in attempt to get what they want. Student suck up to their teachers. Military leaders inspire their soldiers. I suppose these are not all bad things. They are necessary.

  1. This is my sentence of the day: "Perhaps, I am struck by a bolt of ethos but I do not like the idea of using another's fears against them." It made my day! Thanks for writing it!
